The personal memoirs of Alan C. Deere, a New Zealander and fighter ace of the RAF during World War II.

Alan C. Deere
This book is a translation of the wartime memoirs of the ace of the British Fighter Command of the Royal Air Force, Al Deere (1917–1995).

Edition: “Pilot Memoirs”
Language: Serbian
Illustrations: 9 black-and-white photographs, 2 sketches, 1 map
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 332 + 8

Originally written and first published back in 1959, this was the first book by one of the participants of the famous Battle of Britain to present, in the first person, details of the greatest aerial battle in history ever fought between two opposing sides in the skies: the air force of Nazi Germany, the Luftwaffe, in its attempt to gain control of the skies over Great Britain during the summer and autumn of 1940, and the British Royal Air Force in its defensive struggle to protect the British Isles, then the only bastion of freedom in Western Europe.

The title of the book alludes to the extraordinary favor of the goddess Fortune, who saved this brave and persistent subject of the British Crown from certain death an astonishing number of times. In this excellent narrative work, the reader will likewise be glued to its pages until the very end, following a chain of unbelievable events unfolding like an action film: the author survived a mid-air head-on collision, two severe crash landings, one powerless forced landing, three parachute escapes, one fortunate recovery from a spin just above the sea surface, the blast impact of a bomb during takeoff, a partial engine failure followed by the engine restarting, shrapnel damage to the engine caused by enemy ground fire, and much more.
